The Major Parts of an Electrical Panel

Your day’s assignment is on the functioning of an electrical panel. Whenever you want to do any electrical repair, your first task will be to switch off power coming to the circuit of the part of repair, of which you will do at the electric panel. Alternative, the main electrical service box is called a load center.

In the main electrical service panel, power coming from the utility is distributed to various branches connected to various appliances, and outlets in the home. Again depending on the level consumption of power and power distribution network in the home, there can be need for additional smaller panel.Besides the main electrical service panel, then can be a small electrical panel, just in case the area of power utilization is large. Inside the electrical service panel, are circuit breakers which will allow you to stop any current flow to the parts you want to work on.

The whole circuit breaking part composed of one main circuit breaker and some more smaller ones whose number depends of the number of branches involved in the whole system. The location of the circuit in the electrical panel be at the sides, bottom or at the top. The sole work of the circuit breaker is to manage power flowing to the rest of the circuit breakers.

Entering into the main circuit breaker, are two black service wires, which are known as hot bus bars. As they enter they are snapped into position by the main circuit breaker so that as provide power to the circuits. Then the electric current will leave the circuit breaker through two hot wires.

Upon leaving the hot wires, the electric current will work through various electric appliances such as light bulbs and outlets. There are also neutral bus bars which are connected with the two smaller neutral wires leaving the main circuit breaker. Then the bar connects to the main electrical service neutral which returns the current to the utility grid, and the cycle continues.

The next component is composed of a main bonding jumper whereby the neutral bus bar going to the ground are connected with the main electrical service pane. There is another current connection, which is the last one, involving a copper wire connected to a metal rod in the ground from the neutral wires, whose purpose to take control of any stray currents which might be as a result of over flow of current.

Alternatively, there can be a separate ground connection of a ground bus bar. Unlike with the last connection, electricity flows from the neutral wire to the ground bus.

With the guide to the parts to the major functional parts of an electrical panel, you can proceed to carry out your electrical work without any fear.
